Our energy and reserve in the body

Who needs the glucose in our body?

Any tissue in the body utilizes the glucose for energy. It is essential for the brain and the red blood cell (RBC). The brain cells can utilize the ketone bodies only if body is deprive of glucose. But RBC must have glucose. So clearly we need to have glucose.

Voila! Our saving bank has enough funds in it.

Let’s look at our body energy reserve.

1. Small cap fund

Glycogen 200 grams, 800 kcal ( * reflective of 70kg man)

We will finish utilizing it in few days if we are at starvation mode.

2. Mid cap fund

Protein 6000 grams, 24000 kcal

When we run out of the glucose and glycogen, we turn for the body protein for the energy. On which we can survive for few weeks.

3. Large cap

Fat 15,000 grams, 135,000 kcal. On which we can survive for few months.

How much calorie we get from 1 gram of each food group?

A gram of carb gives 4 Kcal

A gram of protein gives 4 Kcal

A gram of Alcohol gives 7 Kcal

A gram of fat gives 9 Kcal.

It is not all that maths! There are the other factors to it.

There are many advertisements regarding the weight lost in quick and easy way. I did not necessarily think they all are inflating. But I do feel that the person whoever is in charge of the program may not know what is a real long term healthy weight reduction.

In my experience at Ace Medical Weight Loss Center, some patients lose 50 pounds over first 3_4 weeks. But the loss of weight may be coming from large portion of the body water and lean muscle mass. With the accurate body composition analysis, we can specifically measure the amount of fat loss and lean mass loss at each time they return.

If the weight loss is coming mainly from the lean body mass, it is just a temporary loss because it will gain back as you stop the program.

But usually in the first few weeks, the large portion of the weight loss come from lean body mass and body water. Fat burning mode can be created systematically fast and effective way. That is the reason, I say the weight loss can be created smartly, simply and effectively.

But I do not recommend losing weight in three days with a pill or a charm because it's just not right.
